Starting off the New Year is a show that took place in the infamous city of Daytona Beach, Florida or better known as "The Birthplace of Speed". Tir na nÒg, the irish pub that hosted Royal Hearts and co., is located right down International Speedway Boulevard. Headlining the night is none other than Royal Hearts with special Guests A Wolf Amongst Sheep, Birds on a Kill, Catcher and the Rye, and Lost Trees.
Starting off the night is A Wolf Amongst Sheep, a 5 member band from Duval County, Florida. Bringing big energy in a tight space, A wolf Amongst Sheep were just what Royal Hearts needed to kick off the nights energy.
Up next is New Symrna locals, Birds on a Kill. Brining more of a punk vibe to the night while still maintaining that solid energy for what's to come.
Followed up by Catcher and the Rye, a 4 member Florida hardcore deathcult band that unleashed some sick, venue shaking music for their set here at the nOg.
Last opening is Lost Trees, a 5 member Emo/Post-Hardcore band from Orlando. These guys sound like We Came as Romans to be honest and sounded pretty sick despite some unfortunate technical difficulties involving the singer's mic but nonetheless they still had such a great energy and sound, keeping us all hyped for Royal Hearts up next. Definitely check these guys out!
At Last! Royal Hearts! The four member Florida Metalcore/Post Hardcore band consisting of vocalist and drummer Michael Summers, vocalist Ryan Camoots, bassist Nelson Tran, and lead guitarist Javier Sardinas. These four make up the sick sounds of Royal Hearts. Kicking off their setlist is "For the Last Time" followed by "Mistaken", which had the crowd moving and kicked the mosh into gear! My personal favorites were "Brittle Bones and Shallow Breathes" and "Structures". They kept a heavy energy all throughout their set with Ryan's Signature groovy moves all the way up until the end of the set, making them a band worth seeing if you get the chance!
I asked the Drummer, Mike about how it felt to play in Daytona Beach for the first time and his response was, “Daytona was the only major city we haven’t played in FL. We didn’t know what to expect but were blown away by the turnout. We hope to be back in the near future”.
Royal Hearts has played shows all across Florida with bigger names like We Came as Romans and Crown the Empire. I personally see big things for them in the future of the Metalcore scene and hear they have some sweet things cooking behind the scenes, so stay tuned for whats to come from Royal Hearts.
