While Alexa Cappelli may be saying “Good Riddance” in her latest song, it just so happens that this is her first release of the year. The last time the pop singer-songwriter from Upland, California, had an official release was in June 2023, a collaboration with fellow pop artist Knox called "Backwards." This gap was due in part to her split from Arista Records, the label she had been signed with for two years.

Sometime in the last year, Cappelli also bid goodbye to the posts on her Instagram, leaving fans wondering what was going on. Cappelli returned to her 131k followers on July 18, announcing with a post on her grid that her latest song was out. In the caption of the post, The Voice season 14 contestant explained that along with leaving her label, she also went through three moves and was “relearning how to trust” herself.

For the most part, the lyrics to “Good Riddance” can be applied to a romantic relationship, a friendship, a past job, or even an ex-record label in this case. Cappelli showcases her newfound confidence in the song and is finally ready to end a relationship. She questions why the other person doesn’t seem to appreciate her that much before telling them that they “fumbled pretty bad” and that she’s “needing more commitment.”

The song is catchy, much like her hit, “Could’ve Just Left Me Alone,” which currently sits at almost 25 million streams on Spotify. The sound has a somewhat dark undertone to it, which emphasizes the boldness that Cappelli is trying to convey. She is straightforward with the other person in the song, letting them know that she’s moving on easily while they are going to have a much harder time with it.

Cappelli appears to be very excited about this new chapter in her music career and also let fans know that there’s “more to come soon, for real this time.”
