With over a million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, and hundreds of thousands of followers across social media, it is safe to say that alternative artist WesGhost has a dedicated fanbase and fans are waiting patiently for a new release. Giving fans what they want, WesGhost is preparing to release his new mixtape, AM I DREAMING?, and it is sure to solidify his place in the alternative music scene. I sat down to give the new mixtape a listen before it's release and it is safe to say that I am going to be a fan of WesGhost from here-on-out.
If I'm being honest, I judged WesGhost too quickly. I saw the aesthetic, the look, and immediately jumped to a conclusion of "well I know what this is going to sound like". I need to learn how to shut up because how wrong I was. WesGhost has a superb understanding on what makes a song catchy and fun while still maintaining an aura of dealing with horrible depressive thoughts. I mean, come on, "PAPERCUTS" fits that statement and I will not be open to discussing it further. The track almost has that pop–punk type vibe while not sounding like just a nostalgia grab. Truly a testament to the musical power and mastery of WesGhost.
Still not convinced that you should give WesGhost a listen? Give "FEVER" a listen and tell me your mind isn't changed. If anything the music video alone should be an indication to how amazing this release is as it has already amassed over a hundred thousand views on YouTube. While the video unfolds like a short indie film, the listener is transported into a world created by WesGhost as he serenades listeners with a tale of what is to come. I really don't think it gets much better than that.
It would be safe to say that I don't think we're going to see another artist like WesGhost for quite some time in every sense of the word. There may be others like him in terms of style and lyrics, but I think we have really found a one-of-a-kind artist that is sure to push the boundaries of music as we know it.
