The Lowcountry witnessed something special through Drew & Ellie Holcomb when they graced Charleston Music Hall with storytelling, laughs, and beautiful music Saturday night. Just shy of one thousand ticket holders were present but somehow the Holcomb’s made individual fans feel like they were the only ones in the room. Piano, harmonica, acoustic guitar, and haunting harmonies completely captivated the audience, leaving everyone yearning for “just one more!"
Drew and Ellie Holcomb are two (w)HOLESOME individuals! See what I did there? This Christian husband and wife duo are not only on tour together, they nixed supporting acts and decided to bring their kids on the road. This might sound a little untraditional in the music world, but I think it’s the opposite! Encouraging loving family values, instilling strong work ethics, and even bringing back the intermission was something I thought was reserved for the good ol’ days. Drew and Ellie’s children were even running the merch table- talk about a family affair!
The fitting title of their tour, “Feels Like Home” lived up to its name. Drew and Ellie shared candid moments and intimate memories of their love story, their current family life, and even some personal ties to Charleston, which made the crowd feel appreciated as fans. Ellie asked the audience if they had seen Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film because throughout the day she witnessed such welcoming southern charm and “Hi, Ellie! Hi Ellie! Hi Ellie!” over and over as they explored the city.
It was incredibly charming to witness the chemistry, love, and support these artists displayed throughout the show. Drew shared that not having any supporting acts allowed them to sing more of the crowd’s favorite songs, and it let his dad (and his older friends present in the crowd that night) take a much-needed bathroom break, which garnered some laughs from the audience. Drew also joked that Ellie wrote a song about him, and he was completely humbled and equally caught off guard because Ellie traditionally writes about Jesus.
For how positive and lighthearted the couple was throughout the show, they touched on adversity, pain, and heartache as being the motivators for a lot of the lyrics we heard throughout their catalog. Their highly anticipated EP, Brick by Brick, was released on February 14th, 2024, and it did not disappoint! Their powerful magnetism and effortless harmony are genuinely felt in this love ballad.
All in all, if given the chance to see them on their US tour, do it! You’ll be better for it. They will be on the road through May, wrapping up in their very own hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, at the famous Ryman Auditorium.
