There’s a special relationship between New Jersey and alternative music. Between punk, pop-punk, post-hardcore, and a million other subgenres, the East Coast scene is no stranger to bands cresting the waves of recognition to crawl onto that Jersey Shore.

If you’re in the market for something fresh, new, and with a hell of a lot of promise, Good Damage is a band that you should keep an eye on. Somewhere between Josie and the Pussycats and Paramore, this energetic four-piece is full of life and ready to take the world by storm with their latest single, “Better Off Alone.”

Right from the start we get a count-off from drummer Cooper Hughes before being pulled in by a beautifully crunchy fuchsia-colored blast of power chords courtesy of guitarist Darin Dickey. It’s a catchy little hook, something to get you worked into things and let you know that it’s time to dance.

“Better Off Alone” is one of those that’s easy to relate to. The idea of finding someone and having a little bit—let’s be honest, it’s more like a lot-of regret is something I would venture to say most people have experienced at least once in their lifetime.

For the chorus, we get hit by a beautiful blend of harmonies from bassist Cassie Entin and vocalist Isabella Pombrio. They’re tight and locked, bringing that feeling of quintessential pop-punk that so many of us have come to know and love–that slightly washed-out purple of a well-loved graphic tee.

“When You come around, I play along
‘Cause you wanna play the victim
So I know you’re gonna hate this song”

With this most recent single under their belt (riding off of the absolute bop of a song that is their first single, “Forget November,” from 2024), Good Damage is set to take the stage opening for La Luz at The House of Independents in just two short days on April 16th!

To make sure you don’t miss out on any of the upcoming movements of Good Damage, follow them on their journey through the scene via their Instagram, and catch some stellar recordings of their most recent shows over on their YouTube channel.
