Featured by Alternative Press as one of “100 Bands You Need to Know” in 2021, The Haunt is best known for their carefree attitude and gritty pop-rock anthems since 2018. The sibling duo’s new single “Bad Omen” perfectly captures the essence of feeling empowered while being simultaneously unbothered.
“Bad Omen” includes vocals from both siblings, Anastasia Grace and Maxamillion, as well as a distinct, edgy guitar riff to begin the song. While Anastasia is the main singer, Max proves that he can also hold his own in the second verse by delivering an intense storm of vocals. Not to be outdone, Anastasia shows how versatile her range is throughout the song, as she warns listeners that she’s a bad omen. However, instead of viewing this as a bad thing, she accepts it. When discussing the message of the song, the band explains that “it’s really freeing to embrace all the weird, messed-up parts of yourself and finally feel at peace with your chaos,” hence the lyrics in the chorus.
In response to anyone looking to judge her, Anastasia tells those people that they should stop focusing so much of their time picking her apart, especially since “the world is burning down,” as she puts it. Also describing herself as a “psychopath” one line later, she sings that despite this, “it’s all working out” for her.
In just the first couple of days after it came out, “Bad Omen” surpassed 150k streams and was placed on Spotify’s “All New Rock” playlist. The music video, which features the band in an interrogation room, was just as popular as the song itself and sits at over 230k views on YouTube alone at the time of writing. This January, the band will set out on their 3-date headlining New Addiction tour (featuring songs from their upcoming album) in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
