Dal Av and Jackson Rose are teaming up with drummer Patrick Galante for a new release coming February 20th. The new album, Petrichor, is sure to push the boundaries and limitations of the heavy music genre. My first introduction to Dal Av was back in 2024 when he released “Racing the Parallel” with Daedric, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I am obviously not the only one who is obsessed as Dal Av’s track, “Insanely Illegal Cage Fight”, has amassed over thirty million streams on Spotify. From what I have heard so far from this new album, I am sure each of these new songs will easily reach that milestone as well.

Let us start with the obvious: this shit is heavy. I just finished a review of the new Traitors album and was thinking to myself that there is no way that any band is going to be able to release anything as heavy as that. Petrichor humbled me as soon as I clicked “play.” Each track brings an unrelentless barrage of crispy riffs, sludgy chugs, hair-raising blast beats, and vocals that are the textbook definition of heavy. Each song also makes me think back to early 2000’s deathcore as well. Take the title track, “Petrichor;” coming in at less than a minute and a half, the song is just one long breakdown. Plus, that little “bop it” sample before the last breakdown? Chef’s kiss!
Another favorite of mine has to be “I’m Not Your Ghost” due to, you guessed it, that heavy shit. The song immediately brings me back to summer and festival seasons from when I was a teenager and ran around the venues getting every and any label sampler CD that I could get my hands on.
From an objective listener standpoint, I think the best thing about this upcoming album that needs to be stated is that it just sounds fun. Each song gives off the emotions and vibes that the musicians that took the time to record and create them genuinely enjoyed the recording process. To say that 2025 does not belong to Dal Av, Jackson Rose, and Patrick Galante would be a lie. It should be apparent that this release will continue to skyrocket them to the top of the heavy music charts.
