In case Deadly Fun wasn’t fun enough, Dark Divine brings us Deadly Fun (Deluxe Edition), a supernatural metal symphony with creative visuals. With an additional four tracks not on the standard version, the deluxe album contains singles “Burn the Witch” and “Digital Numb,"  which were released earlier this year, and alternate versions of “Cold” and “Drown.”

In September of last year, Dark Divine first released Deadly Fun, which marked the release of their debut album after their popular 2022 EP Halloweentown. First formed in 2021, the band is currently comprised of guitarist Robby Lynch, drummer Triston Blaize, bassist Cory “Scissorhands” Piscitelli, and lead singer Anthony Martinez, who says that the deluxe album adds new elements while exploring messages and themes of reflection, observation, rage, and deception.

The first of 14 songs is the title track and gives listeners an insightful preview on what to expect as the album goes on. Songs such as “Hive Mind” and “Dancing Dead” are uniquely brilliant in the way that they incorporate the emergency broadcast message and horror movie screams, creating a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Between the production of each song and the music videos released so far, the songs on this album could have their own standalone film, much like Fall Out Boy's Young Blood Chronicles

“Burn the Witch” (full review here) is a vengeance-filled song for those needing to stand up to that toxic person in their life, while “Digital Numb” provides an interesting commentary on how suffocating technology and social media have become and how we use them to numb our feelings. “Drown (Synthwave)” has an electronic dance beat and “Cold (Cinematic)” is a chillingly beautiful stripped-down version of track 3 featuring an elegant piano melody. These bonus tracks are a prime example of how Dark Divine can excel in multiple genres.

Deadly Fun (Deluxe Edition) arrives just in time for Halloween, as well as the band’s appearance at night 2 of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Apocalypse Fest headlined by Motionless in White. There will also be a listening party the night of the album’s release (October 4th at 8:00 pm EST) on Stationhead hosted by guitarist Lynch and the designer of the stunning suits/suit jackets the band can be seen wearing on stage, Charlie Greaves.
