Face Yourself, the deathcore band that transcends genre limitations as well as borders, has released their brand new EP, Martyr, via Sumerian Records. This new release continues to showcase the band's immeasurable talent as they continue to push the limits of music itself. The transcontinental deathcore band continues to perfect their recipe of blending old-school concepts with a modern heaviness as their members span across states in the US as well as overseas in France. It is safe to say that vocalist Yasmine Liverneaux brings her French influence and socially conscious themes into the mix, setting the band apart with an intensity and depth that’s rarely seen in the genre.

With only 5 tracks on the EP, Face Yourself combine heavy drop-tuned breakdowns with that iconic early 2000's/ Myspace-era riffs and samples. Take the opening track of the EP, "Primal", and how it starts with that "voicemail" style intro accompanied with some synths until it explodes into a barrage of chugs and demonic vocals. If there was any doubt in your mind on the intensity of the EP, it should have subsided back in January when the band released "Sideration" as a single because it is an amazing love child of metalcore, deathcore, mathcore, and just brutal metal! It reminds me of something I'd get to experience back in the Rockstar Mayhem Fest days as you head bang at 10am until you're concussed and then chug an energy drink and do it all over again until the sun sets. While I don't think I can choose just one track as my favorite, if you put a gun to my head and said to choose, I'd have to give it to "Poet" due to the fact that it makes me want to shotgun a beer and rip someone's head off in the mosh pit. A track that is over 3 minutes long and feels like one giant breakdown is no laughing matter and each listen, it just gets better and better.

If you are still doubting the musical talent of this band, put your money where your mouth is because you will have the chance to see the chaos live this summer as the band embarks on tour with Crystal Lake, VCTMS, and Not Enough Space. Buy your tickets now because this tour is sure to sell out in no time.
