After their collective departure from JYP Entertainment in 2021, members Mark Tuan, JAY B, Jackson Wang, Jinyoung, YOUNGJAE, BamBam, and YUGYEOM embarked on solo ventures and GOT7 became a self-owned and produced group. Now in 2025, they have returned to stoke the fire of their fans’ hearts with WINTER HEPTAGON, a nine-track mini album that both highlights their evolution and stays grounded in their signature style.

The title of the project is inspired by stars that are more visible during the winter. It feels fated that this astronomical phenomenon has as many luminaries as members, happens during the same season that GOT7 debuted, and that they resemble the letter ‘G’ when connected together.

Each song showcases involvement from each member, making it truly a work of collaboration and unity. The lead song, “PYTHON”, written by BamBam, features a slightly haunting yet sultry tone of confidence. Seamless transitions and flawless falsettos take listeners through the push and pull of people destined to be together.

Jackson brought his lean towards retro funky beats to “SMOOTH”, a deceivingly simple track that possesses rich layers of instrumentals. YOUNGJAE worked on “Our Youth”, which is bursting with hope. The Korean title, “청춘드라마” (cheong-chun deu-ra-ma), translates to ‘youth drama’, lending itself to the cinematic nature of the satisfying builds and drops throughout. No matter what they’ve gone through – “hardship is just a cliché for the main character” – they still have energy to keep going even after 11 years, because as Jinyoung sings in the pre-chorus, “it’s okay, don’t worry, we’re together”.

Reminiscing on their history as a septet transitions into recalling a relationship in “REMEMBER”. Shaped by YUGYEOM, it sounds like a fusion of UK house and R&B nostalgia. Fast paced rhythm and airy adlibs carry the weight of happy memories like “the first day we held hands”, “the days we went out together”, and “all the times we overcame together”. The Korean title here means ‘I will remember’ (기억할거야; gi-yeok hal-geo-ya), and offers further commitment to keep recalling the good times shared.

JAY B played a crucial role in the creation of “Darling”, but rather than veering the song towards the sensual as he often does in his own work, he kept it at the innocent. The members’ vocals blend perfectly with each other, making it an easy listen. BamBam’s influence returns in “TIDAL WAVE”, an all-English dance-pop track with great harmonies. The overall production is catchy, and much like the emotion-driven lyrics, it rises and falls like waves.

OUT THE DOOR” is a narrative-driven pop-rock song written, composed, and arranged by Mark. Despite the evident angst, it’s sonically very warm and would pair well with a sunset drive with all the windows rolled down. In contrast, “her” is an indie-folk ballad headed by Jinyoung. Soft percussions and acoustics lighten the heaviness of heartbreak, pain, silver linings, and ultimately, acceptance.

The EP ends on a benevolent note with “Yours Truly,” a tender fan song with lyrics by all the members and composed by leader JAY B. The Korean title, “What we can say” (우리가 할 수 있는 말은; u-ri-ga hal su i-neun mal-eun), adds another level of sincerity to the devotion present in this finale. “If you always wait for me in that same spot / Even if it takes a long time to be by your side / I will definitely come back someday, I promise”; no matter how long it takes for them to come back, they will stay at the sides of their supporters.

With charms of each member woven throughout, WINTER HEPTAGON is a testament to their individual and combined talents, brotherhood, and everlasting connection to their fans. Each star may shine brightly on their own, but they have even more radiance to give when they're together.
