Where to even begin about the phenomenon that is Lauren Babic? Known for her infamous covers of heavy metal reimagined pop songs, her work with Red Handed Denial, CrazyEightyEight, and SKYLIMIT, there seems to be no limit to the talent this metalcore superstar has. It must explain why Babic has amassed nearly seven hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify alone with songs that have over tens of millions of streams. She must still be hungry for more as her debut solo metal EP is inching its way towards release. The EP, Too Much and Never Enough, is sure to be a contender for release of the year as it has all the components of a truly stellar release.

I do not think I can pick a track off this EP and claim it to be “the best” due to the fact that each one is unique it their own right. Take the first song, “Sanctuary.” The song is like an anthemic metalcore track with its groovy riffs, catchy lyrics, and transitions between Babic’s ability to scream and sing with pristine quality. “Breathe You In” is a little more on the pop side, but that is generous due to the intense metalcore vibes still. That chorus is still stuck in my head even as I write this review. It is like if Honey Revenge decided to dabble in metalcore and down-tuning. Just a certified banger.

“I’m Bored” is such a fitting title for this track in the most ironic way possible as it opens with a level of intensity that leaves your jaw on the ground. It is like Babic thought that this EP needs a kick-ass, in-your-face, pissed off track and I could not be happier about it. Plus, that ending breakdown? Chef’s Kiss!

The closing song off the EP, “Let It Die,” is such a masterful way to close out an EP. With the anger of “I’m Bored,” the catchy, pop aspect of “Breathe You In,” and the anthemic quality of “Sanctuary,” “Let It Die” is like the lovechild of all the previous songs. I did not think it was possible to write such a masterclass of a song that does nothing but run through your mind hour after hour, but I am pleasantly surprised.

If this is what the future has in store for Lauren Babic, let me know where to sign because I am here for the whole ride!
