Jake Scott Paints the Town Lavender

Jake Scott’s Lavender tour makes a stop in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, October 26th.

Two things you’re guaranteed to take away from a Jake Scott concert: he is really in love with his wife Rachel and a tune stuck in your head that you’ll be humming the following day.

Jake Scott is a singer/songwriter hailing originally from Arkansas but moved to Los Angeles where he met his wife Rachel, who is the inspiration for the majority of Scott’s songs. Well, except for “I Don’t Miss You” which he made sure to let the audience know was NOT about Rachel. Scott’s setlist consisted of an hour and a half mix of older and newer songs, including a sneak peek of his new song “Lavender” which is off his debut album Lavender, which the singer hinted would be releasing soon. Scott laughed, remarking that yes, he has released a ton of songs but hasn’t released an actual album yet. He has been working on putting Lavender together for the majority of 2022, and fans were extremely excited when the singer told the Charlotte crowd.

Jake Scott’s first opener of the night was Brynn Cartelli, the season 14 winner of The Voice making her the youngest winner of the reality show. Cartelli played an acoustic set consisting of her new songs “Gemini” and “Girl Code,” which was a recent release by the young singer. Her voice instantly soothed and captivated the audience, myself included, and you couldn’t help but listen in awe. As she played a cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” the crowd began to sing along and the room started to come alive.

After Cartelli left the stage, she was followed by Sam MacPherson, a ridiculously talented singer/songwriter from New Jersey. I chatted with MacPherson quickly after the show after waiting in a line of fans doing the same thing. He was so kind and we bonded over South Carolina, my home state and where he attended college for a couple of years. Before leaving, I told him I enjoyed his set, which I genuinely meant. He had an amazing rapport with the audience in between songs and even had them singing along with his last song “Last Minute,” a hit that has amassed over 13 million streams on Spotify.

After a quick set up, lights went down for Jake Scott, who, quite literally, skipped his way on stage, instantly lighting up the room. Scott when back and forth from his upbeat tunes such as his opening song, “CWJBHN” and to the chill, love songs, like his first encore song “Tuesdays,” that beg to be listened to wrapped in the arms of the one you love, “Tuesdays” was my first introduction to Jake Scott was when I was photographing a wedding and the couple chose the song as their first dance. The newlyweds just held each other singing every word to each other, which I believe is how Jake Scott’s songs are meant to be experienced.

Jake Scott’s Lavender tour has 13 more dates so make sure to check him out, along with Brynn Cartelli and Sam MacPherson if they’re in a city near you! It’s a show you definitely don’t want to miss.
