Canadian singer-songwriter, JP Saxe, released his newest single, "Safe," on January 24. In true JP fashion, he has created yet another song that seems to have originated from the most personally vulnerable depths of his mind. He has the ability to turn any emotion into song lyrics, as if he is ripping the page directly from his journal.

Listen to JP's newest single, "Safe."

Appropriately, the entire essence of this song can be summed up with a single word: Warmth. From the minute the first few notes start to play, the combination of the tempo, rhythm, and melody puts the listener into a calm, trance-like state. The gentle tone of JP's voice makes the listener want to trust each word he sings, creating another layer of "safety" that surrounds the song.

JP is a talented writer of raw emotions. The single flows in a train of thought style that explores the different forms of safety, from physical to emotional. The song keeps the perfect balance of JP's natural wit and emotional awareness, which strengthens it as his work. The combination of heartfelt imagery is intertwined with playful sections pulled directly from his life. This is most strongly displayed in the lyrics, "Haven't needed a fist// since third period gym// Jeremy Copeland// honestly, fuck that kid."

Much of the creative process is shared with his audience, as JP interacts via polls on Instagram for many details, such as the track art for the single. This is a beautifully universal song, no matter who the audience is. It offers insight into the ideas of masculinity, and humanity, around the theme of safety.

Along with the single, JP released an official video with lyrics. As far as the video goes, there really isn't a whole lot that happens, though it works for the simplicity of the song. The video plays on the idea that the song feels like the listener is having a very personal one on one conversation with JP.
