Nashville-based independent artist, Kelley Cole, is stepping into the spotlight with her new single, "Twenty Something Teenager". The single, released on March 14th, is set to be the lead track for her debut project.

“I think we all have a version of ourselves that we miss, ” Cole explains. “This song is me reaching back to that girl and inviting her to stay with me—sleepovers, twilight marathons, and all”.

This track combines the traditionally distinct sounds of angsty pop-punk and down-to-earth country music into a perfect mixture of one unique sound. The softer, slower verses lull the listener into a comforting sense of nostalgia. This immediately contrasts against the louder, upbeat chorus that follows, driving the message home.

The universal lyrics also enhance the nostalgic feel of the music, especially for those of Kelley's generation. She mentions several familiar memories from childhood, including: sleepovers, pillow forts, and watching movies like the Twilight Saga's New Moon. The lyrics vividly paint the contrasting images between the light, fun memories of childhood, with the darker, serious ones of adulthood. This is most prevalent in verses like, "When did wearing what I want turn into just playing a part// When did looking in the mirror turn into my biggest fear// When did growing older turn to growing colder?"

As Kelley sings, listeners can feel the yearning she expresses, exploring the transition from child to adult. She explores her feelings vocally, through the repetition of questions like "Who told me it was through" and "When did it start?"

Overall, Kelley has created an emotionally raw song that resonates with many of her listeners today. Her sound remains unique, with the perfect nostalgic tone.
