It was the moment we had all been waiting for. The timer on LinkinPark.com finally led us to a secret livestream event. The instruments were slowly uncovered as the intro to “Castle of Glass” played. When Mike Shinoda entered the stage, he said it was good to be back, and they jumped right into their explosive new single, “The Emptiness Machine.” Just moments later, a female appeared on stage.

There had been rumors of a new vocalist, and that they would be female, and they were correct. Linkin Park debuted their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong of the band Dead Sara. There are a million things I could say right now but I’ll let “The Emptiness Machine” speak for itself instead…

Shortly afterward, an email was sent out to all of LP’s top followers on Spotify:

Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.

We’re all still broken and always will be, but we’re home. Welcome back, Linkin Park.
