New Jersey native, lolitslea, returns to the scene with her newest pop-punk single, "Favorite Singer". This colorful single seems to have finally found its way into the spotlight that it deserves, after having been tucked away for awhile.

"I wrote this song in December 2022 and had it pocketed for SO LONG (for good reasons!!), and I'm so stoked it's finally here," lolitslea wrote in an Instagram caption accompanying the song's release.

"Favorite Singer" takes everyone's favorite elements from multiple genres (punk, emo, pop, etcetera) and seamlessly blends them together to form a familiar, yet unique new sound. Overall, the sounds are similar to other bands from the scene, including Hey Monday and Paramore.

The song utilizes many musical elements that are prominent in both pop and punk genres. The guitar and drum elements push to keep the beat flowing smoothly, making the song an ideal dance tune. Likewise, the synth also adds a unique touch that brings the pop tones forward.

Lyrically, lolitslea is a true punk storyteller. She does an excellent job portraying the frustration that comes with the expectations in one-sided relationships. Throughout the song, the artist isn't only fighting with a disinterested lover, but with themselves while comparing the lover to their favorite singer (who is interested in them). Two key themes that seem to appear throughout the song are jealousy and infatuation.

"You gotta be so blind// I’m right by your side// But he’s more worth my time// You wouldn’t know// That I talk you up// But I’m so fucked".

The lyrics also utilize traditional writing elements like similes to further push the song's message.

"My favorite singer wants me// But you play with your guitar// Like my feelings// I’m not gon’ make it too far".

As of June 28, lolitslea has also released a music video to accompany the song. The music video is presented in the style of a vintage home video set in a record store, which only adds to the traditional pop-punk aesthetic of the music.
