Alternative rock artist, Lucy Mayhem, recently released her newest EP, Into Hell. The leading track, "Save Me," has a rich sound that perfectly sets up the tone for the entire EP.

When asked about what the song means to her, Lucy said, "'Save Me' holds a special place in my heart. Not only because of how it helped me heal and come to terms with my past on a personal level, but because it was the first song I ever wrote where I didn't start to hate it as time passed. I finally felt I brought the sound I heard in my head to life. It was a defining moment in me finding "my" sound, and ultimately was the catalyst to [the] Into Hell EP."

"Save Me" serves as a beautiful depiction of someone battling their internal struggles, as they fight to return to their old self. The song explores the difficulty that comes with the contradiction of growing comfortable with the darkness while also striving to return to the person they once were. The tempo of the song adds to the contradiction, as it is a somber speed that seemingly goes against the urgency of the lyrics' repetitive nature.

The contradiction is displayed through the lyrics, "Slow dancing with my mind//Is slow dancing with The Devil//I find comfort in his eyes//Even though I see the fire," followed by, "So save me//I want to be free//Please save me//I want to be me//God save me//I feel trapped in reality//Save save me//I miss the old me."

The song's lyrics are full of dark imagery that solidifies the deep extent of the struggle, with references to "the Devil," "death," "nightmare," and "fire."

Besides starring in it, Lucy also helped direct and produce the accompanying music video for the song. The music video relies on dark red and black tones to help play heavily into the overall macabre style of the song. The retro home video recording style also adds to the sense of disorientation that the song seems to express at times. While creating an overall haunting feel that matches the song well, the sense of contradiction continues with the pairing of the natural scenes against the dark indoor scenes.
