MEET THE TEAM | DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY, IAN STORCK

I’m a freelance photographer and video producer based in Madison, WI. Not only is photography my career, it’s also my hobby. My favorite types include live music (obviously), creative portraiture, and combat sports. Prior to the pandemic I was a professional wrestling photographer, covering hundreds events from the independent scene to the television pay-per-views. Outside of photography I enjoy hiking, camping, and going to the theatre.

MSM: How did you get your start in music photography?

IAN: I went to dozens of concerts in high school and college, and upon graduation I began shooting shows here and there for some PR agencies, and then linked up with publications to start covering more.

MSM: How long have you been doing photography in general?

IAN: I’ve been doing photography since 2015.

MSM: What’s in your gear bag?

IAN: Currently I use a Sony a7iii and 2 zoom lenses for concert photography.

MSM: What advice would you give to anyone wanting to go into music photography?

IAN: You won’t get huge artists immediately. Work your way up and bolster your portfolio with smaller shows. Also be ready to crank that ISO way up.

MSM: Who would be your dream artist to shoot?

IAN: Rammstein

MSM: What is your favorite live show that you’ve attended?

IAN: Rammstein, 2011. Their first US tour after 10 years.
