Milk, Cookies, and Metalcore with MattPlaylists

Well, I don't have any milk or cookies, but I have plenty of metalcore for you! My favorite part about waking up on Friday morning is getting that notification about new songs being dropped by some of my favorite bands. Here are some of the best new releases for the week:

VCTMS - "snuff.tape (ft Paleface Swiss)"

Easily one of the heaviest releases this week is this new VCTMS track. The aggressiveness and heaviness of VCTMS pairs so wonderfully with Paleface Swiss. The track has a bit of a hip-hop vibe to it without taking away from VCTMS ability to make any crowd throw down in a mosh pit or circle pit. I know that I, for one, need VCTMS to tour with Paleface Swiss to get the opportunity to hear this song live.

Make Them Suffer - "Oscillator"

Make Them Suffer has always been a huge name in the metalcore/deathcore scene, but they absolutely took their place on the throne after 2020's How to Survive a Funeral. This most recent single is no different on the heavy. The vocal styles of Sean Harmanis & Alex Reade compliment each other so well as the track continues to keep listeners on the edge of their seat.

Void of Vision - "Blood For Blood"

Speaking of being a name in metalcore/deathcore, it would be ridiculous not to mention the rise of Void of Vision. The band has been making a name for themselves ever since forming back in 2013, but blew up the music scene with their cover of Slipknot's "Psychosocial" & Chronicles I: LUST, Chronicles II: HEAVEN, & Chronicles III: UNDERWORLD. This recent release combines heavy riffs, synths, and one of the most enjoyable breakdowns I've ever heard.

Twiztid - "fed up"

Shaking it up a bit is this release by Twiztid. I don't know what it is about this release, but I've had it on repeat for a few hours. With an absolutely incredible and original sound, this track brings the heavy while also bringing something that scratches an itch I didn't know I had. It's no surprise that Twiztid is still this good with close to two decades in the industry. If this track came out in the late 2000's or early 2010's, I guarantee you that "fed up" would be featured in almost every video game soundtrack or trailer for a movie.

HIGHSOCIETY - "Dead by Dawn (ft. Daedric)"

Now I might be a little bit biased on this because it features one of the best artists in the Dallas area, Daedric, and they absolutely kill it. Similar to what I was saying about the new Twiztid song, I guarantee this track from HIGHSOCIETY would be on every anime music video throughout YouTube or set to those Kingdom Hearts boss battles. Tell me I'm wrong — you can't. Between the tantalizing electronic sounds and Daedric's vocals, this song is sure to be everywhere by the end of the month.

Oceans Ate Alaska - "Onsra"

Bringing it back to that metalcore sound is this new Oceans Ate Alaska track. The band has been around for nearly 15 years, but I recently fell in love with them after watching drummer Chris Turner on The Downbeat Podcast. Between those classic metalcore vocals, riffs, drum fills, and just all-around vibe, this is a metalcore classic in the making. It may not be as heavy as January's "Endless Hollow" release, but I personally think it is just as impressive, if not more, when bands keep that "sound" while changing it up a bit. "Onsra" is that track and I'm going to keep it blasting for the next few days (sorry to my neighbors).

Bloody Pineapples - "liMOusIne"

Okay. Yes. You read that right. The name of this band is called Bloody Pineapples, but hear me out when I tell you about just how amazing band this band is. With members based in The United Kingdom, The United States, Brazil, Spain, and Sweden for the recording process, and a live band line-up based out of Eugene, Oregon, this project started back in 2020 and has quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the music scene! Their 2023 release, Chains of Suspicion, was nothing short of a masterpiece and this cover of Bring Me the Horizon's "liMOusIne" is just as amazing! It sounds like an astounding blend of grunge, dark pop, metal, experimental electronic, and a secret sauce that I just can't place. If you can catch this band, do it as soon as possible before the next time is from the back of the festival grounds.
