As a member of 'Gen-Z,' I can vouch that Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club" fits the bill as the Song Of A Generation. The song perfectly encapsulates the emotions of a generation that flips societal norms on its head in search of self-expression. On October 18th, Pop-Rock powerhouse Morning In May released their take on the pivotal track with their signing to Ghost Killer Entertainment. This cover, may not be for everyone, but for those who still listen to their Pop Goes Punk CDs or attend their local Emo Night, this track (and band) is right up your alley.
Morning In May's cover of "Pink Pony Club" benefits from increasing the urgency and energy of the existing track. It adds more tension to the song, making it a fun jam. However, this is where some may not connect, as a big part of the original song's appeal is the nostalgic vibe that washes over you with the slow build-up into the big chorus. This cover may be perfect for the music enjoyer who never quite connected with Chappell Roan but enjoys her cultural impact and influence, wanting to dance at the Pink Pony Club. Lead vocalist Jake Bartolic states:
We covered Pink Pony Club because every once in a while I hear a song that really catches me. It’s always in different genres. But when I get that song that just attaches to me. It feels like the universe tapping in. As cheesy as it is, the covers pick me.
