Sleep Theory launched in January 2023, and have been skyrocketing upwards ever since. This year, they opened for Shinedown, Set It Off, and Beartooth. Their EP, Paper Hearts, charted as a #1 album on the iTunes charts. Sleep Theory shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and they're even hinting at something big for 2024! MSM: First of all, would you mind introducing yourself, and briefly explaining your music for any potential new fans?
SLEEP THEORY: Sleep Theory is a rock band with multiple influences including R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop. The band consists of Singer Cullen Moore, Guitarist Daniel Pruitt, Bassist Paolo Vergara, and Drummer Ben Pruitt.
MSM: What first ignited your passion for music?
SLEEP THEORY: Everyone in the band has had unique influences in their lives that play a part in what has ignited a passion for music in each of us. For example, we have influences from R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop which, fused with all of our love for Rock, makes our unique sound.
MSM: Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they helped to shape your sound?
SLEEP THEORY: Every band member has their biggest influences when it comes to playing and writing, but when it comes to the sound of “Sleep Theory”, Linkin Park has played a role in shaping our music, influencing not just our sound but also our approach to songwriting and the way we connect with our audience. It's about embracing diversity, expressing genuine emotions, experimenting with sound, and staying true to your unique artistic voice qualities that reflect the influence of a band that has left an indelible mark on the world of rock and alternative music.
MSM: How do you keep your music fresh and relevant in a never-changing industry?
SLEEP THEORY: Sleep Theory sits in a very unique position in the music industry. Our goal has always been to fuse genres, while giving people a nostalgic feeling that has proven timeless. Though we are a rock band, our sound can not be put in a box, which makes us malleable to whatever new trends come our way.
MSM: Can you talk about the creative process behind your EP, Paper Hearts,
and what themes or messages you were trying to convey?
SLEEP THEORY: The creative process behind Paper Hearts was just to be as open and vulnerable as possible. To tell a story that anyone could relate to. The theme of the EP was heartbreak, but also knowing how to move on from it.
MSM: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable performance or moment
in your career thus far?
SLEEP THEORY: One of the most memorable moments for us was back when we played at RockFest. We only had two songs released at the time which were "Numb" and "Another Way". At that show in particular, everyone was singing these two songs by heart! It truly meant the world to us and now it’s something we look forward every show we play.
MSM: Can you share any interesting or surprising facts about Sleep Theory or
its members?
SLEEP THEORY: We all have an obsession with sleep. Ben loves cottage cheese, Paolo can’t say the number three, Daniel looks 15, and Cullen is short.
MSM: What artists have been inspiring you lately,or that you feel are really
pushing boundaries and changing the game?
SLEEP THEORY: Bad Omens, I Prevail, Linkin Park, Bring Me the Horizon, Paramore, Ariana Grande, and Drake.
MSM: What non-music media has been inspirational for you lately?
SLEEP THEORY: As a band, We get inspired from our fans and families. They’re always supporting us from what we do to achieve our dreams, every milestone we get they’re always there watching and cheering and sharing what we post from social media. That drives us to be better and inspires us more with our craft.
MSM: Lastly, do you have anything else that you’d like to share with your fans?
SLEEP THEORY: We would first like to say thank you so much for all of the love and support you all have shown us this past year in 2023! We cannot say exactly yet, but let’s just say that we have been working on something very special for all of our fans for the upcoming 2024 year! The best is yet to come.
