With precursors Poppy and Jane’s Addiction, the Spirits on Fire tour is chugging nostalgic rock throughout North America. The Smashing Pumpkins are still in the early stages of their tour with their fourth stop being in Tampa, FL on October 7th, 2022.
The Pumpkins commanded the stage from the minute they took their rightful place, kicking off their 20 song setlist with Empires. The band played a range of their classic heavier songs like Bullet With Butterfly Wings and Zero alongside their new material such as their latest single Beguiled. The band also played two unreleased songs by the names of Neophyte and Harmageddeon.
Some personal highlights of the show include a cover of Talking Heads’ Once in a Lifetime and Pumpkins’ song Tonight, Tonight being dedicated to Tom Brady and our beloved Buccaneers here in Tampa. These two moments however had nothing on the band’s drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, giving an absolutely killer solo during the performance of Solara. Notable fan favorites were watching James Iha, guitarist of SP, interact with the crowd throughout the night, and of course, the arena erupting once 1979 began. An additional surprise also occurred when the band was joined by National Wrestling Alliance members Mercurio and Natalia Markova, who traded some blows on stage while the band continued to perform around them.
The Spirits on Fire tour continues on throughout North America with dates from New York City to Los Angeles and is a spectacular night of some of rock’s greatest names.
