With his sophomore album, Attempted Lover, set to come out later this month, gold-certified musician Sueco has released the LP’s third single, “Outta My Head,” along with an accompanying music video. Known for his genre-bending capabilities, Sueco delivers tenfold on his newest track. “Outta My Head” is infused with a stellar blending of 90s grunge into hyperpop infectiousness, and fueled by the feeling emos love most- angst.

Sueco premiered his debut album It Was Fun While It Lasted in March 2022 under Atlantic Records, the follow-up to his two previous EPs, 2019’s Miscreant (also released under Atlantic Records), and 2017’s self-released TrippyNights. Announcing his departure from the label a few months back via social media, Attempted Lover will be Sueco’s first-ever full-length self-release.

With each body of work possessing its own distinctive style and sound, the singer/rapper, producer, and multi-instrumentalist has never backed down from the challenge of experimental genre-bending. Mixing various elements of hip-hop, rock, and pop has become the Sueco standard, and the release of “Outta My Head” showcases his refusal to disappoint on that expectation. Switching between a rap delivery of lyrics and a display of raw, rock vocals, combined with high-energy drums, loud guitars, and an irresistible pop melody, Sueco’s talent for breaking outside the restrictive walls of genre is on full display. Ensuring “Outta My Head” has a little bit of something for every listener.

Filmed inside a home garage, the music video for "Outta My Head" drives home the song's 90s grunge vibes, further accentuated by the intermittent use of a grainy camera filter. As glimpses of the video's female antagonist are caught, she seems to be in a constant state of movement, most notably dancing. Almost as if to demonstrate how she's always putting on a performance of some sort, seeking attention. This seems plausible, given lines such as "Dress up how you want, you can't turn horns into a halo / Blamin', pointin' fingers, but it takes two to tango."

Sueco's newest single, "Outta My Head," is more than just an absolute banger. Incorporating elements of various genres into a cohesive, unique style of music would be an impressive showcase of his talent and artistry alone. But Sueco takes it one step further by releasing a music video that flawlessly complements both the song's sound and its story. As the final glimpse into his upcoming album, Attempted Lover, "Outta My Head" proves listeners are in for one hell of a ride on July 19th.
