Switchfoot continued their 'The Beautiful Letdown' world tour in Knoxville, TN on Thursday night, joined by Lostboycrow. The opener quickly gained the attention of the audience, starting his short setlist with a cover of “Linger” by The Cranberries. Lostboycrow paired his songwriting abilities with his stunning vocals to put on an amazing set. The audience sang along to his hit song, “Strawberry Sunscreen,” as he readied them for Switchfoot.
Switchfoot took the stage thirty minutes later with an energy that brought the Tennessee Theatre’s seated crowd to its feet from beginning to end. Although the show was seated, the audience stood for the entire time, showing just how dedicated this fanbase is. Switchfoot’s lead singer, Jon Foreman, even noted during the show: “Those chairs sure are comfortable, but no one is taking advantage of them!” To great cheers from all.
Switchfoot, as promised, played the entirety of their breakthrough album, The Beautiful Letdown. They played all of the familiar songs, adding modern twists to each of them, such as when they began singing “Dare You to Move” with the opening lines from their new song “Beloved.” After finishing the album, Jon and the band turned the rest of the night to requests from the crowd. They unexpectedly played “4:12” due to a special request, which came as an awesome surprise for all.
The stage was not the limit for Jon Foreman as he surfed through the crowd, even making it to the balcony during “The Sound.” As Foreman was about to jump down from the railing, he remarked “It’s a little too far to jump, I think,” and high-fived his way back down the stairs to the stage.
The night ended with an encore of “Where I Belong,” followed by the band all holding a fan-created sign as an appreciation to the crowd. A spectacular evening with a spectacular band left everyone with a smile on their face as the night ended.
