The Social in Orlando is a venue with a capacity of 400, creating an intimate atmosphere for concert-goers to enjoy their favorite musicians and experience a close connection with the music. I had the honor of not only seeing ALEXSUCKS perform live, but also interviewing Alex in the green room before he took the stage with his band. ALEXSUCKS is an Alternative rock band fronted by Alex Alvarez from Los Angeles. You can find the band skating before delivering electrifying, high-energy performance while on tour. You can catch them this summer as they announced a new tour which kicks off July 9th in Los Angeles.
MSM: First Question! Who is your biggest musical influence?
Alex: The Clash
MSM: What led you to pursue a career in music?
Alex: It was pretty unintentional, it kinda just happened. It was just fun and then it just kinda happened. I just made some songs and put them on the internet, I didn't really think about it.
MSM: Are you listening to any underrated artists right now?
Alex: Semiwestern and Rehash, who are playing with us tonight. Also, Yuck.
MSM: Have you found a favorite skate spot while on tour?
Alex: We skated this DIY spot in Seattle that was really awesome.
MSM: How was your experience in the LA scene?
Alex: It may seem like there is so much going on, but I actually feel like a lot of other cities have more of a live music scene than LA. I think that in LA people just get lost in the sauce. I played diy shows for about a year before we ever played a real venue. We just did it for fun and one thing led to another.
MSM: What is your go-to karaoke song?
Alex: “How to Save a Life” by The Fray.
MSM: Favorite show you've played on tour thus far?
Alex: Salt Lake City was a ton of fun, Chicago was a ton of fun, I don’t know, they've all been pretty fun.
MSM: Any dream artists you would like to collab with?
Alex: That's a hard one to say, we’ve gotten to work with some of our dream people already. We don't really do collabs but like producers we’ve gotten to work with. We are real blessed to work with producer Brendan O’Brien, we are gonna work with David Sitek, and were working with Andrew Wells. We are just happy to work with the people we are working with.
MSM: What is your earliest memory surrounding music?
Alex: My first show that I ever saw, I saw Beck at Red Rocks, that was awesome, I love Beck.
MSM: Last question, what is something coming up that you are excited for?
Alex: Our album. It was supposed to be out before we went on this tour but, that did not happen.
