In the ever growing world of metalcore, it might be hard for a band to stand out. This is not the case for North Carolina natives The Coursing with their most recent release: Worthless. Composed of 8 songs over the course of nearly 25 minutes, it is safe to say that there is something for every type of fan on the album. One of my personal favorite tracks is The Fatal Hour. The song has a wonderful blend of aggressive metalcore vocals, some extra crispy guitar and bass tones, very tight drum fills, and an amazing incorporation of electronic elements that bring me back to 2009. I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t mention the energy of the closing and title track, Worthless. As someone who frequents many metalcore, deathcore, and metal shows, I’d be willing to bet that the breakdown is going to make people lose their minds. Overall, the album leads me to believe that The Coursing is well on their way to become a household metalcore name in the next few years.
