Eternal: lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning.
To claim a tour title saying your band is eternal, you must have a serious track record. Since The Devil Wears Prada’s introduction nineteen years ago; nine albums, six ep’s, and over seventeen-hundred shows have solidified their status in the metalcore scene. On November 10th, The Devil Wears Prada Eternal Tour graced the iconic stage at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg FL, garnering support from four other bands: Greyhaven, Like Moths to Flames, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and Silent Planet.
First on the ticket was Greyhaven, a progressive post-hardcore band from Louisville Kentucky. During their six song setlist, they wasted no time throwing the crowd into the energy for the rest of the night, delivering heart pounding vocals and riffs that had you headbanging along.
With twelve years in the industry, Like Moths to Flames has been a staple in the metalcore scene. Their seven song setlist took fans old and new through their discography, highlighting their newest album by playing fan-favorite “Kintsugi.” Lead Chris Roetter commanded the crowd and even at one point said, “You’re here to listen to me, so you’ll do what I say,” and that the crowd did, jumping, screaming, and crowd-surfing when he commanded.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy is just as chaotic as their name sounds, but God, are they so much fun to see live. Lead Connie Sgarbossa, commanded the crowd the entire set, their energy growing with each second, leaving the crowd wondering what their next move would be. If you want a band that has song titles and musical arrangements that keep you guessing, this is the band for you.
A therapy session and a jam session all in one. Silent Planet stacked their ten song setlist with the best of the best, highlighting favorites from their latest release Superbloom, singles from their tenured album The Night God Slept, and performing a new unreleased single. I was lucky enough to see them perform their Superbloom album in its entirety last February and was excited to see so many of those songs back on their setlist. Also, let it be known that lead Garrett Russell has the most insane eye contact while performing and you will be enchanted by the band’s performance.
After an eternity, pun intended, The Devil Wears Prada took the stage. Blasting onto the stage with their song Mammoth, the lights in the venue went red as pits opened and crowd surfers started moving. The six-piece band had a great stage set-up letting you take in a whole image of the band at once. To describe photographing this band was like running a marathon in ten minutes, all members of the band moving throughout the stage constantly. One thing that comes with a TDWP show, is not only the insane stage lighting, smoke, and confetti, but vocals that are just as crisp as they were when recorded. They are a band that has stood the test of time, and in my opinion, even gotten better with time. This was my third time seeing them, and it never gets old. Their songs, lyrics, and amazing stage presence are eternally ingrained in my brain.
So, is The Devil Wears Prada eternal? Damn right they are.
