As the first anniversary of The Crucible of Life approaches in just a few months, The Home Team has released a music video for the seventh track on the album: “Somebody Else’s Face,” which features Oliver Baxxter of rock-pop trio Broadside. With over two million streams on Spotify alone, “Somebody Else’s Face” leans more into the heavy part of The Home Team’s heavy pop genre label and pulls at the heartstrings of those who have experienced a similar situation before—being left for someone else.
Joining forces once again with their longtime director Sam Link, The Home Team and Baxxter star in the song’s music video filmed in Greater London. The video opens with a shot of an eye dilating before revealing a shattering mask. After the title card, a person wearing the same mask and sitting on a couch is shown while being watched by a man (Baxxter) outside the house, who is also being watched himself. He then runs into the house, and the video cuts to a shot of him waking up to five eerie masked figures standing over him. He continues to follow the first masked man before encountering a different familiar masked face, which fans may recognize from the cover of The Home Team’s 2021 album Slow Bloom, as well as a couple of their other music videos. In the end, Baxxter puts on the mask of the man he was initially chasing and ends the story.
In between shots of the story being told, the band, consisting of Brian Butcher (vocals), John Baran (guitar), Ryne Olson (bass), and Daniel Matson (drums), performs the song with power and vitality before being joined by an equally lively Baxxter towards the end. As usual, Butcher is expressive while singing, which helps to emphasize the emotionality of the song while Baran, Olson, and Matson play their instruments with immense passion. Butcher’s vocals are undeniably impressive, especially in the bridge when he sings, “Everything ebbs and flows (But you know that) // Feelings will come and go (But don't hold back)” and after, when he sings the last chorus with Baxxter.
The Home Team just finished a European tour with Broadside and headliners State Champs, where they performed “Somebody Else’s Face” together several times. Now, Broadside is set to tour with Silverstein, Real Friends, and greyhaven in April, while The Home Team will be preparing for the return of Warped Tour, where they will be playing the Long Beach, California dates in July and the Orlando, Florida dates in November. They’re also one of three supporting bands on the “Return of the Robot Tour” (Belmont and Dwellings being the other two). They are also going to tour Australia with Mayday Parade and Jack’s Mannequin as part of Mayday Parade’s “Three Cheers for 20 Years” tour in September. Tickets can be found here.
