The (John) Candy is back again with... well... I am still trying to figure out exactly what genre to classify the project as. I featured The (John) Candy in Music Scene Media's Mathcore Noise Playlist, and while maybe mathcore isn't the "right" genre, I still don't know what is. Deathcore? Metalcore? Hardstyle mixed with pop samples? Whatever it is, the band slaps and there is no denying that. Their newest release, "Disasterpiece of Mind", is proving that the bangers are nowhere close to being done from The (John) Candy.
Listen, not only is the music enough to make you headbang in the car while you have the time of your life, but the song titles also bring you back to that early 2000's feeling. We have titles like "This Guy Is Like Leatherface, Chucky, and Jan Brady Rolled into One", "I've Got a Gas Grill for Sale, It's a Weber Grill", and "The World Is a Vampire and It Feels so Good". You do not know what to expect with titles like that.
"Disasterpiece of Mind" is no different as the track opens with an EDM anthem build up and abruptly halts as Slipknot-style vocals grace your ears. The track continues to keep the energy going with nasty and dirty riffs, groovy drum fills, eerie samples in the background, and vocals that leave you in a state of panic. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of this track before its release and, even now with every listen, I am noticing new moments that are becoming my new favorite part of the song.
I truly do not think there is an artist out there doing it like The (John) Candy. This is truly something that is one-of-a-kind and I do not think can or ever will be replicated in the same capacity. What does the future hold for The (John) Candy? I cannot even begin to imagine the potential collaborations, the potential genre bending and blending moments, or comprehend the limits that they will go to in order to achieve something that has never been done before in music.
