LA based rock band, The Wrecks, are back and better than ever. Bursting at the seams with impeccable wit, good vibes, and a D.I.Y approach to music-making, members Nick Anderson (vocals, production, guitar, keyboard), Nicholas “Schmizz” Schmidt (lead guitar), Aaron Kelley (bass), and William “Billy” Nally (drums) have steered their wheels towards a new project. From writing and producing to cooking up precise and enticing visuals, The Wrecks are known for delivering a cohesive experience; like top-tier world builders.

With two new singles already released, “Speed,” and “Always, Everytime,” The Wrecks have given us what can only be assumed is a warm up to their newest project INSIDE :. In preparation for their live performances upcoming this year, The INSIDE : OUTSIDE Tour, their lead singer joined 1824 for a press conference to discuss all things new about the upcoming record.

Alongside a few other publications, I was lucky enough to join the press conference with a quick question in mind for the lead singer, Nick Anderson. Once the conference began, on behalf of Music Scene Media, I was able to ask my own question regarding one of the tracks on INSIDE :.

One of the new tracks, “Milwaukee’s Best,” is amply titled after Nick Anderson’s gushing love for the city, and presumably its local beer choices. Simply put, Anderson describes this song as “yearning, going back to young life and being carefree.” After two years of feeling isolated, this track is bringing the listener back to where some of the band has made some of their favorite memories. Wisconsin has that effect of making you feel at home.

Self-isolation plays a huge role in this project, as the title INSIDE : implies. The feeling encapsulates being cooped up in one’s home, room, and, for The Wrecks, works its way into their home studio recording style. The writing process has taken two years, in which they were able to challenge themselves, production wise.

Anderson also noted some other interesting details in preparation for their live performances, he said that a lot of making music sometimes comes with lots of arts and crafts. He tends to take on a huge role in designing and building their tour set, lighting design and backing tracks custom and on their own terms. For The Wrecks, these factors are non-negotiable and done out of necessity to their art. Creating a visual world like they do can not be built overnight, nailing that visual element defines what the songs sound like.

In their recent content, the music videos for “Always, Everytime,” the viewer can see how the themes begin to connect visually. Broken window shades, cramped spaces represent the attempt to escape the isolation period; breaking the cycle. While in the music video for “Speed,” the appearance of astroturf, shrubbery under the setting of a living room represents the feeling of that struggle to break out and to get back outside and experience the world.

The Wrecks new project INSIDE :, out April 11, is kicking off a brand new era for the band. The six track release will be available for purchase in CD, standard black vinyl and a special edition picture variant with a signed insert, while supplies last. Alongside lots of new merch items, listeners can also find new t-shirts and hoodies at their upcoming tour, with support from Quarters of Change and Benjamin Carter. Purchase tickets HERE.
