Emerging in 2021 from South Florida, Tracheotomy embodies a revival of a new wave of Deathcore. Reminiscent of the early 2000's "Myspace DIY" scene, Tracheotomy's sound harkens back to the early days of bands such as Suicide Silence, Hatebreed, and Ion Dissonance; but brings that fully up to date with their mixture of crushing riffs, sludgy break-downs and full force vocals. Tracheotomy's current line up consists of Simon Mariante (vocals), Brandon Ortiz (guitar), Randall Mcie (guitar), Ben Cotton (drums), and Vendel Lipscei (bass).

The band's second EP, Fixated Propensity For Destruction, is a twenty-ish minute technically accomplished audio assault that clearly showcases their growth from 2022's Dissimulation.

The EP opens with "Maimed", a brief chuggy yet dissonant introduction to this release. "Keeping it 100", the mid-track skit lets us know the quality that we are in store for during the remainder of the record.

Ahead of the full release, we have been treated to a couple of singles accompanied by music videos. "Deliberate Dehumanization" is the first of these to feature, kicking into a higher tempo, this is a sludgy romp, with some face-melting breakdowns that will surely have the hardcore kids spinning up into a frenzy.

“This is definitely our most pissed-off track,” the band shared, giving insight into the track. They continued, "We wanted to take heavy elements of the genre, without getting stuck in the ‘OG Deathcore’ box. The song is a coalescence of every member’s taste, something we’d like to mosh to, with a modern spin.”

"Stifled By Dominance" is filled with technical riffs that perfectly meld with a guttural vocal performance that sees Simon Mariante fully display his range. The track finishes with possibly the fiercest breakdown of the record, you cannot help but go into full crabcore when listening to this one.

Also previously released as a single, "Repercussions" is another hardcore offering that manages to weave in some elements of doom into this downright aggressive track. "I know everything....fuck you all....say it to my face".

Discussing this track, vocalist Simon Mariante said "This song is about that one person that does everything in their power to make your life miserable. In the end, it backfires and you get your revenge. They finally face the repercussions for doing you dirty.". There must be some tea to be spilled here around who these lyrics relate.

"End The Plight" is an assault of blast beats "Don't even try to come at me...we all know how this will end". Broken up with a little grime skit, a south London accent declares "You better watch your mouth or I'll break your fucking jaw"; before the track finishes with a djent-y flourish.

Closing out the record, the longest track on the EP, "Phosgene Blood Stream" sticks the landing. Joe Hennessey's performance behind the drums is especially deserving of mention here.

The band had previously mentioned that the single "Deliberate Dehumanization" was their most pissed-off track, but it's clear to see that the entire EP is full of aggression. With the evolution of their sound, pulling on influences from other genres, and a clear meld of each of the member's tastes, Fixated Propensity For Destruction is a well-polished addition to the band's catalogue that is sure to please deathcore fans but, we suspect, will also appeal many hardcore aficionados.

Produced by Bodysnatcher's Chris Whited, Fixated Propensity For Destruction will be released via 1126 Records on July 19th; just ahead of a slew of headline dates across the US throughout July and August, with support from Surfaced, Girl of Glass, and Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
