You may know of Sarah Kinsley from her viral song “The King” on TikTok or her ethereal EP, Ascension that came out in 2023. Her debut album, Escaper, is being released on September 6th and is sure to be some of her best music yet. The first single from the album “Last Time We Never Meet Again” speaks on the topic of losing a friendship. It is filled with beautiful vocals and orchestral melodies and looks back with gratitude on a friendship, but also knowing what is best for yourself and moving forward.
When asked about what this album taught Sarah about herself, she answered that it taught her “who do you become when you need to escape.” Kinsley also stated that during this album process, she learned about existing outside of music, and leaned into her vulnerable side. Sarah Kinsley sings about relationships that are outside of the romantic context, friendship. With friends, we can be our most vulnerable and true selves and that is shared in her second single “Starling.” The track speaks on this platonic love and how important it is in our lives. The song is a beautiful ode to the power and comfort of a good friendship.
“We could never be those girls again
If we tried, put your hand and swear
We'll be fine if we're still here at 45
If you don't marry someone, then neither will I
Say you'll be mine”
- “Starling,” Sarah Kinsley
For Kinsley, the message of Escaper is up to the individual’s interpretation, but she does hope the following idea is shared: “Escape is necessary for survival.” This album provides that very escape for those who listen. With her other-worldly instrumentals and relatable lyrics, listeners are easily able to picture themselves in the realm (pun intended) of this world Kinsley has created.
Sarah Kinsley is sharing this magical record on the road this fall on The Escaper Tour in North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
