With two Juno nominations under their belt and a viral TikTok hit ("Like 1999") to boot, in recent years, Toronto band Valley has earned their place as the breakthrough darlings of the alt-pop scene. Yet, despite their recent successes, a piece of the puzzle was still missing – they didn’t feel like their authentic selves.
The alt-pop sound that propelled them to global stardom left them unfulfilled and the group felt they needed to redefine themselves in a truthful and authentic light. In a pilgrim's journey of sorts, the band retreated to a cabin in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to get in touch with themselves and record their latest album, Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden, arguably their most vulnerable and personal work to date.
I had the privilege to chat with Rob Laska, the lead singer of Valley, about the journey for authenticity through redefinition, their latest album, and their upcoming headline tour that kicks off on September 28th starting with Philadelphia, PA.
